“How to Prepare Drywall Repair” Fix It Dudes: Drywall Video 1

Hey Dudes, I’m Patrick Ahounber. Founder of Modaa Inc and Fix It Dudes.com.  And due to an overwhelming request for do it yourself videos.  My team and I have created a mix of commonly used videos to help you with your home improvement needs.

Hey Dudes, I’m Patrick Ahounber with Modaa Inc.  Today’s lesson is going to be on:  How to Patch a Hole in Drywall.

Drywall Preparation

Tools Needed (video card):

      1. Level

        2. Pencil

        3. Keyhole Saw

         4. Rasper

        5. Utility Knife

he first thing we are going to use is going to be a level and the reason why I’m using a level is, I don’t have any studs on the side and I got plumbing running vertical.  I’m probably going to make this hole alot bigger than it is and what I’ll do is take the highest point, which ever point is, which will be here somewhere, right there.  I will plumb the level, whenever it’s ready. Okay that’s plumb, right there. I’ll draw my pencil line, then I’ll do the same thing, I’ll level it out, the highest point here, right there. Go back to the right side and do the exact same thing, same thing on the bottom, there.

So I got my perfect square that I need with the level.  Now I’m going to go ahead and get the keyhole saw and go ahead and cut this portion out so I can get a square.

There’s our square right there.  You can put the insulation back in, and then the next tool we’ll use will be the rasper. And what the rasper does is it cleans up the edges of the cut.

What I like to do here all the time is use my utility knife and cut the extra paper off, off the edge because that will play a big role when you come to mud.

Okay so we got the box, we got the opening all ready to go, so our first step to the hole was; we got the level, we leveled all the edges with pencil line and plumbed it, and then what we did after that was we got the keyhole saw. We traced the pencil line that we had created with the level, and then we got the rasper to clean the edges, to clean drywall, rough parts of the drywall. And then a utility knife to somewhat get the edge of the paper off because this is going to help us when it comes to patching time.
